Irena and Mieczysław Mazaraki Museum in Chrzanów

The Irena and Mieczysław Mazaraki Museum in Chrzanów is a cultural institution with a history of more than sixty years, which collects and provides access to the memorabilia related to the past of Chrzanów and the Chrzanów region, cultivating regional traditions and documenting them as well as building historical awareness among the residents and visitors. We are restoring the memory of bygone centuries through exhibitions, education and publishing activities, and scientific research.

The Judaica collection is one of the museum's most valuable assets, which is partly displayed as part of one of several permanent exhibitions to bring the material and spiritual culture of the community, which accounted for more than half of the town's population until the outbreak of World War II, closer to the residents in particular. Created since the institution's inception and still expanded, it now numbers more than 200 artefacts. The collection's core comprises objects related to religious practices performed in the synagogue and at home. It is complemented by everyday objects, archives and paintings, which include works not only by local artists but also by Leon Lewkowicz and Artur Markowicz.
