List of copies of scientific papers from foreign journals

It is part of the collection

As it can be gathered from Janina Goldhar’s relation, had she stayed in her country of origin, she would have been removed from work with time anyway. Therefore, the departure to Israel, Sweden or Denmark was, for many families, not a choice but a neccessity caused by the impossibility to continue work and by the increasing social ostracism towards Polish Jews.

A few months before March 1968, Janina temporarily acted as the head of the Faculty of Bacteriology at the Medical University of Warsaw (her predecessor had retired). When a new superior was appointed, he initially treated her with respect and frequently made use of her experience, asking her for a consultation. Everything changed, however, after 8 March 1968. The new manager stopped seeking Janina’s advice and the colleagues began to avoid her company. She was one of the longest-employed people in the plant. When, shortly before leaving, she met her superior to inform about her decision, she heard:

‘Madam, you have solved a kind of dilemma for me, because I received a message from the personnel department that you would stay at work, but without being allowed to conduct classes with students, because you may have a bad political influence, so scientific and other works, yes, but you wouldn’t be allowed to teach students.

And I felt very uncomfortable, I didn't know how...'

‘Well, so I solved the problem for him’, the donor summed up the situation.
