Awl – a leatherworking tool

The sewing tool consists of a metal flat handle with slightly downward-curved prongs at the end. The prongs hold a movable serrated wheel with a diameter of approximately 2.05 cm. The metal elements are adorned on both sides with a geometric plant motif. The handle is attached to a turned wooden grip in a vase shape, additionally reinforced at the base with a metal round cap. The tool was used for marking stitches on leather before sewing. Conservation status is good. There are traces of corrosion and shallow cuts on metal elements. The wooden grip is darkened. There is a visible hole from a nail on the underside.

Preservation in the Renova workshop in 2013 (disinfection treatment, cleaning of dirt and dust).
