Besamim spice box

Spice box of tower type, made using the filigree technique. The base is formed by four arches arranged in a square and supported by four semicircularly arched legs. The shaft is composed of four curved ribbed rods, which are fastened together in the centre by a stylised rosette. The main part of the spice box is set on a square platform, the sides of which are decorated with geometric ornamentation and bear AM initials on the back (the box was possibly custom-made and these are the initials of its owner). The main part of the fragrance container consists of two cubes of different sizes with the larger one being the base for the smaller one. The top of the smaller one has an additional pyramid surmounted by a small stylised rosette and a pennant. A rod, threaded at the bottom, passes through the main part of the box to hold its components together. Originally the larger cube had a door, which is now missing. Two signs are stamped on the right side of the square platform. The first is the mark of the Brno assay office: above an horizontally divided oval, the letter F and the date 18..0, arranged on both sides in two rows. The second mark is the JS monogram (the same monogram is also visible on the pennant).

The spice box was purchased for the collection of the District Museum in Rzeszów in 1971.
