Celnikier, Izaak (1923-2011)

The scene with naked men, one of whom is carrying the bodies of the dead, is the easiest of all the graphic triptych "Birkenau" to relate to the painted version of the triptych with a similar title, created a few years earlier, in 1989. The dramatic gestures, terrified eyes, heads of the living not very different in expression from those who have just been exterminated, intensifies the horror of the Holocaust, with Celnikier using a dense, concrete line to achieve its authorial expression. | AT
