Blue tower

Bok, Teodor (1947-2007)

part of the collection

Teodor Bok’s wooden constructions are most often shaped into towers, small pyramids, big heads and spheres. They seem raw, but are meticulously sculptural and plasticly/texturally processed. They bring to mind objects of a magical and ritual nature, like his slim, round Wieża niebieska [Blue tower], constructed of wooden boards of different lengths, width and thickness, patinated black. The upper part of the construction is openwork, and in a round clearance the artist installed five golden balls of different sizes, coloured partly red and blue, one atop the other. The composition is topped by the four-sided roof, with its sharp, high summit, painted in white and blue stripes. Parts of irregularly sized and shaped boards contribute to the `tower’s materiality creating the irregular, rough texture of the sculpture, smoothened by light, pastel colours.
