Bottle

Jamiołkowska, Aleksandra (1993- )

Image of Józef Diatłowicki with various objects taken to the exile, including bottle of Baczewski (vodka).

Image of a standing man – bent, with straight legs – reaching for a bottle lying on the floor among other objects. A suitcase on his left, depicted from the side, four wheels at its corners. On the man’s right (in front of him) another suitcase, similar but white (an outline). Further to the right, curtain of striped fabric with fringes at the bottom edge, a few pillows, a framed picture, bowls and a boot.

In the short film Syberyjski diament [Siberian Diamond] (2016) based on the videotaped oral history interview with Jerzy Diatłowicki (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgxK-5rEiRU) the image is intercut when the bottle of Baczewski vodka is mentioned (one that was taken to the East from Luck [Ukr. Lutsk] and then back to Poland after the war, untouched): "There’s no way such an event would have happened in the whole of the world’s history. And it would have been the most precious exhibit in this museum if only it hadn’t been snatched from the house a few years later. "
