Building of the Towarzystwo Kredytowe Miejskie (Urban Credit Society)

Photographic documentation of the site

In was built on Pomorska Street 21 during the years 1878-1881 according to the project of Hilary Majewski. The architecture refers to classicism. Inside the building representation halls were held with impressive paintings within. That is where the businessmen of Łódź used to take credits, thanks to which they could build their factories and palaces. High above the main entrance is a Latin inscription – Virbitus Unitis – with joined forces. That is a symbolic memento of what that place used to be. In the board of the Society the greatest businessmen of Łódź used to sit: among others Izrael Poznański and Herman Konstadt. In 1945 the headquarters of the Soviet Army were located there. Since 1949 till 1996 the Medical Academy used the building. Since the end of the 90's the building remains in private hands.
