Carcass of a horse

Bok, Teodor (1947-2007)

part of the collection

Decorative, yellowish paper (like that used in The Earthworm, see MPOLIN-M60) was chosen by Teodor Bok as a background for the carcass of a horse lying among scattered stones. Painstakingly rendered in black ink, with detail, it creates an image of a dead horse, captured in all the glory of death and the inevitability of decay – the skeleton remains, the ribs devoid of muscle and skin, the limbs curled up. Only the nape, the back, the head with small ears and the tail still show remnants of skin and hair.

There could hardly be a more poignant epitaph for a dead animal.
