Chaim Hilfstein Jewish Co-Educational Folk and Secondary School in Kraków

Photographic documentation of the site

The Chaim Hilfstein Jewish Co-Educational Folk and Secondary School in Kraków, the so-called Hebrew Gymnasium, was established in 1908 thanks to the efforts of Zionists, mainly S. Laser, S. Spira and O. Thon. It was owned by the Association of the Jewish Folk and Secondary School. Its real founder and long-standing principal was Chaim Hilfstein. The establishment consisted of Public School No. 57, a co-educational humanistic gymnasium, and the Male School of Crafts. It was attended by about 1,350 students. Its curriculum included religious education, lessons on the tradition and legacy of Judaism, knowledge about Palestine, and, most importantly, vocational training. The school was located at 8/10 Podbrzezie Street since 1921.
