Chaim Wiślicki’s Factory in Łódź (ul. Gdańska 138 - formerly ul. Długa)

Photographic documentation of the site

In around 1905, Chaim Wiślicki moved his woollen fabrics and scarves factory to ul. Długą (now ul. Gdańską 138). It was previously located at ul. Piotrkowska 83.

At the new address, he built a new factory, employing 250 workers in the fully-mechanised spinning and finishing mill. The factory produced cashmere fabric and cloth, and had an annual turnover of 700,000 rubles.

During World War I, the factory’s equipment was stolen. The owner declared bankruptcy and he leased the factory’s halls to various entrepreneurs.

At that time, it was the site of:

Samuel Inselstein and Fiszl Gelner’s mechanised weaving mill, which produced fabrics for ties from natural and artificial silk,

J. Sarny’s mechanised weaving mill, producing woollen and semi-woollen fabrics, and

Brzozy’s thread factory, producing cotton and carded yarn.

During World War II, the factory began producing electrical equipment for the German army. After 1945, the Low Voltage Equipment Manufacturing Plant was established here.

Currently, it is the location of the “WOLTAN” Electrical Equipment Plant.
