Chasydka pokazująca listę zaproszonych na szabaty w jej domu. Me’a Sze’arim, Jerozolima

Photograph of an elderly woman presenting a long list of people invited to Sabbaths at her home. The Sabbath lasts from sunset on Friday until nightfall on Saturday. For Jews, it is a day of rest, a festive time with a number of rules and precepts. The most important thing is not to work or perform activities that are work-related during the Sabbath. One does not operate electrical appliances, write, or move a long distance away from dwellings. It is customary to begin Shabbat with the lighting and blessing of candles, which is part of a woman's mitzvah (duty). Shabbat is spent with the family. The photo was taken in the Jerusalem neighbourhood of Mea Shearim.
