Crowd of Jews Standing in a Tight Group

Majcher, Alojzy (1907-1943)

The autolithograph Crowd of Jews Standing in a Tight Group by Alojzy Majcher, an artist from Tarnów, depicts a genre scene. The crowd of men completely fills the centre of the image field. Most of them are depicted in a similar manner: wearing a long black coat (gaberdine), with a Tallit on their shoulders and a black hat with a straight brim. Some have got beards and payot. The men's faces are shown in a sketch-like manner. In the frame, right next to the lower left corner of the composition, is the author's inscription: "autolithograph”. In the lower right corner, at the same height, there is a signature: "AMajcher".
