Crucifiction

Szwarc, Marek (1892-1958)

After 35 years Szwarc came back once again to his work on Ukrzyżowanie [Crucifixion] from 1917 (see MPOLIN-M33). This composition from 1952 is a direct reference to the first artwork (which is also pointed out in the artist’s note); this time it is in colour, the technique is watercolour. Just like in the previous version, the cross, the figures and all the small town buildings are heavily outlined and boldly deformed in the expressionist manner. The colour adds up to the scene’s dynamism, contrast and expression.
