A cutout with an image of a sculpture

A cut-out, probably from a book or magazine, with a black and white photograph presenting Magdalena Gross's sculpture "Marabou". The photo presents the sculpture en fance, there is a caption: "M.GROSS – Marabut (brąz, repr. w albumie "Magdalena Gross", "Sztuka" 1957)" (M.GROSS – Marabou (bronze, repr. in the album "Magdalena Gross", "Art" 1957). The cut-out has uneven edges. Gross described her way of working with an animal model as follows: “First, I observe the animal, I choose the movement that attracts me and that is most characteristic of its essence. Then, I make drawings, sometimes models from plasticine or clay. In the studio, the transfer of sketches to a clay model begins” (Teoria i krytyka. Antologia tekstów o rzeźbie polskiej 1915-1939). In the 1930s, the artist was going through a creative crisis. Looking for inspiration, she went to the park where the first zoo in Warsaw was planned to be established, she met Jan and Antonina Żabiński there, with whom she became friends. It was then that she started creating animal sculptures. UCO
