The design of theatre scenography – an interior of the forge

Pacanowski, Bolesław (1901-1977)

Compared to the MPOLIN-M1158 project, the interior of the forge in Bolesław Pacanowski's scenographic design speaks directly. Our (i.e. the viewer's) attention is immediately drawn to the most important smith's props – the furnace, the bellows. In the foreground, there is an anvil with a large hammer lying on it, and wheels and wheel rims scattered around show the most common work of a blacksmith – repairing wagon wheels. The tools hanging on the wall, from the left: two pairs of large tongs, a hammer and tongs, bring to mind another object from the POLIN Museum collection – blacksmith's tongs that once belonged to Mosze Widelec, a blacksmith from the village of Poręba-Kocęby near Wyszków.
