The design of theatre scenography – a tavern

Pacanowski, Bolesław (1901-1977)

Here is a slightly revised version of the design for the play "Yakenhuz. Oylem habo, Mensh" [Wieczór Szołem Alejchemowski; Sholem Aleichem Evening] by Ida Kamińska (see MPOLIN-M1160). This time the building is wooden, single-storey, with a sloping shingled roof. The signboard with the Cyrillic inscription ``отелъ | теркапиа`` and a crossed spoon with a fork is identical; the chimney on the ridge is identical, with a yellow crescent and a star. Minor changes can be seen in the living area: there is a large window with draped curtains, a bed headboard, and a nightstand next to it; in the middle there is a wooden rectangular table on cross-braces, and on its top there is a tall pitcher and a cup with a saucer, while on both sides of the table there are Thonet-type chairs.
