The play depicts the subsequent fate of the people of Israel seeking to settle in the God-given promised land. After fleeing Egypt under the leadership of Moses, receiving the tablets with the Ten Commandments from God, and a 40-year wandering in the desert, to which they were condemned after worshipping the golden calf, the Israelites reached Canaan. At that time, the leader of the Jewish people was Joshua, who took over the leadership after the death of Moses.

The scene depicted in the drawing shows the battle for the city of Jericho described in the Book of Joshua. On the seventh day, however, the Israelites were to encircle the city seven times in this way, raising a battle cry during the last one. Joshua did as God had instructed him, and the walls of Jericho collapsed, crumbling to pieces. The Israelite army captured the city and then conquered the entire promised land. JO
