Diary of a Jewish girl named Rut

Rut's diary is a collection of good wishes and cheerful entries from the owner's friends and family. It is a notebook with a dark green leather binding embossed with a geometric pattern. On the front cover is a fragment of a metal Art Nouveau ornament, probably originally with a representation of a woman. The white pages feature the author's own entries and quotations from literary works, including texts by Adam Asnyk and Adam Mickiewicz. Some of the pages with entries were decorated with pencil sketches and colourful drawings. Plant motifs predominate, and one of the pages features a portrait of a young girl wearing a hat. The period in which entries were made is approximately 6 years. Diary entries were very popular at the time. Almost every girl and young lady kept a diary. The diaries mainly consisted of entries by friends, sisters, cousins, and sometimes boys. Rut's diary is a testimony to friendly relations among residents of different religions and nationalities in pre-war Poland.
