Document photograph of Dawid Hochsinger

Dawid Hochsinger probably took the photograph especially for his sister Anna Zimmermann, who lived in Palestine. On 21 February 1934, he dedicated it to Anna, as did his brother Salomon (see MPOLIN-A31.3.6). In the dedication outlined on the reverse, Dawid wrote: "To my dear loved ones / Anda, Cwijon and Ispus / an image of myself in memory / sends / Your David / 21 February1934". | Natalia Zajczyk reported about her youngest brother in a letter from 1936: "However, Andziuń, we are all alive, that is, apart from our poor parents, no one has died, thank God! Everyone is suffering, but they are alive. I feel very sorry for Dawus. He is so unable to come to terms with his poverty. Earning a piece of bread from day to day exhausts him so much. He looks miserable. (...) If I were materially better off, that is, if I could afford a servant, I would absolutely take David with me, because I feel terribly sorry for him" (The letter from Natalia Zajczyk to Anna Zimmerman, 2 and 8 June 1936, MPOLIN-A31.2.1). | Natalia wrote about the death of the youngest of her brothers: "Poor Dawid wanted to live like that. He had just got married in a ghetto. He believed in a better tomorrow and with this belief he went to his execution" (The letter from Natalia Zajczyk to Anna Zimmermann of 28 November 1945, MPOLIN-A31.2.3). | Dawid Hochsinger died in Treblinka in 1942. | Renata Piątkowska
