Document photograph of Zofia Zajczyk (II)

A few years after arriving in Israel, 17-year-old Zosia Zajczyk (then already using the name Yael) posed for this photograph. In Jerusalem, after the death of her mother Natalia Zajczyk (she died a few weeks after arriving in Israel in 1950), she moved in with her mother's sister Anna Zimmermann and her second husband Moshe Lurie. Many years later, Yael Rosner told Agata Tuszyńska the story of his life. The story, written down by Tuszyńska and illustrated by Joanna Chmielewska, became the basis for the book Mama zawsze wraca (Mother Always Returns). There we read: "When I came to the country, I was eleven years old. When I said anything, anything that my mum used to say, that it was like this and like that at our place, or that once, when we were on a train, it was like this and like that, here no one could listen. And right away they would say: "Hush, hush, don't speak, don't speak". My aunt [Anna Zimmermann - R.P.] was good and dear, she was a dentist, she was wonderful, but she didn't want to hear anything" (Agata Tuszyńska, Iwona Chmielewska, Mama zawsze wraca, Warsaw 2020).
