Edward Rydz-Śmigły

Gottlieb, Leopold (1879-1934)

The official portrait of Edward Rydz-Smigly (1886-1941), Marshal of Poland, Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Armed Forces, as seen from the right half-profile. This was the second lithograph of Rydz-Śmigły's portrait, the first one (which was not included in the portfolio) was made by Gottlieb in 1915. The first one (which did not enter the portfolio) was made by Gottlieb in 1915 (today in the National Museum in Kraków), probably in return for the portrait of him made by Rydz-Śmigły, who graduated from the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts just before the outbreak of the First World War. Apart from Rydz-Śmigły, Gottlieb also portrayed eight other artists-legionaries. | AT
