Emil Tenenbaum Archive

Emil Tenenbaum (1897-1943) was a graduate of the Jan Kazimierz University in Lviv, and the founder of the associated literary group Rybałci. The group, which was active in the 1930s, mainly included seminarians of Prof. Julius Kleiner. Meetings were held in Emil Tenenbaum's flat at ul. 32 Mochnackiego Street in Lviv. The Rybałci group included: Aleksander Baumgardten, Maciej Freudman, Stanisław Rogowski, Władysław Jan Turzański, Mirosław Żuławski. Zygmunt Haupt was also associated with the group. Emil Tenenbaum himself is known to have made a name for himself with the publication of his novel 'Burzliwy żywot Hersza Tortena (Tła...)' in 1936.

The archive was preserved by Elżbieta Mazanek, aunt of the donor, who was a friend of Tenenbaum. After the woman's death, the mementos were kept by her family. They were then donated to the POLIN Museum. | MF
