Entlausung – odwszenie (Entlausung – delousing) (march) – unpublished version (II)

Siemaszko, Olga (1911-2000)

One of the unused illustrations for the book "Ręka umarłej" (Hand of a Deceased), for the short story "Entlausung - odwszenie" (Entlausung – Delousing) by Maria Zarębińska-Broniewska. The story shows the march of female prisoners at Auschwitz to the bathhouse where they are to be deloused. Cf. another version not used in the project and the board used: MPOLIN-M1612 and MPOLIN-M1613.

Part of the composition was covered with a shiny, transparent film-forming substance, which influenced the colour and opacity of the brown background.

The even cutting of the edges of the card to a rectangle is unique compared to the collection of illustrations for the book "Ręka umarłej" (Hand of a Deceased): it is one of the few works prepared in this way; in the case of other works on canvas, the artist left the outer edges uncut for graphic processing in the publishing house.
