Felicja Blumental's school card (II)

part of the collection

“Matrykuła” stands for a pupil or student ID. The word, almost unused in contemporary Polish, appears on one of Felicja Blumental’s school ID cards (No. 170) issued for the 1923/1924 school year. Felicja was then a sixth-grade student of the Girls’ Gymnasium run by Cecylia Goldman-Landau. Sixteen-year-old Felicja looks at us seriously from the photograph. She is dressed appropriately for the occasion, wearing a white cap with a huge bow and a school apron with a large white collar. | At that time, the headmaster of the gymnasium was Jakub Wołczek, whose signature can be seen on the card. The school was located in a large tenement house at Przejazd 5, near the intersection of Rymarska and Leszno Streets. More information about the school can be found at: https://sztetl.org.pl/en/towns/w/18-warsaw/102-education-and-culture/138812-gimnazjum-i-liceum-cecylii-goldman-landauowej-w-warszawie | Like all school identity cards, it was marked with a red seal of the Tramway Board, entitling to reduced fares. | Renata Piątkowska
