Hubert Czerepok's installation is a five-metre high fence made of steel, on which the artist placed abusive slogans and symbols found in public space on city walls. In this way, the author exposes the reality - such offensive inscriptions, an element of the "speech of hatred", are so ubiquitous that they have almost become an element of the landscape. And this can result in social desensitisation and a dangerous becoming familiar with aggression.

p> The "Płot nienawiści" [Fence of hatred] by Hubert Czerepok for a few months was exposed on the square of general Jan Jura-Gorzechowski in Warsaw. This place is not accidental because it is symbolic. The square is home to the Garden of the Righteous, initiated by the History Meeting House, which commemorates those who opposed totalitarianism and mass murder in the 20th and 21st centuries and stood up for human dignity.

The material of which the work is made plays an important role. "An inscription that has been transformed in this way is more durable, more inconvenient, more difficult to hide and to ignore. That is why the materiality of this work is an important aspect. The installation is in public space, adjacent to the spray inscriptions on the wall. It makes it more difficult, biting and awkward", Czerepok emphasises.
