Glass-cutting

Jamiołkowska, Aleksandra (1993- )

Józef Diatłowicki and his grandson, Jerzy, imagined as cutting a glass pane. The child is watching his grandfather’s hands. The man is wearing dark clothes, his skin (we can see his forearms from under his sleeves) is grey, his beard and hair – white.

In the short film Syberyjski diament [Siberian Diamond] (2016) based on the videotaped oral history interview with Jerzy Diatłowicki (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgxK-5rEiRU) the image is intercut with the words: "Once it turned out, they needed someone who knew how to cut glass and – what is more – who had the tool, he volunteered".
