The Glass Mountain

Bujnowski, Zygmunt (1895-1927)

Zygmunt Tadeusz Bujnowski's oil painting entitled "The Glass Mountain", painted on canvas. The piece was created in 1926. Painted with long brushstrokes, it is dominated by bright tones. At the heart of the composition is a green mountain with a dark summit, overgrown with forest. Scattered white stones, possibly gravestones, are visible on the slope. Bujnowski may have portrayed one of the nearby Jewish cemeteries in Tykocin or Knyszyn in this manner. The painting was donated to the Museum in 1959 by a local primary school physics and chemistry teacher, a social custodian of historical monuments involved in saving historical collections from Tykocin and the surrounding area.
