Goldkorn, Włodzimierz

Włodek Goldkorn was born in 1952 in Katowice. His parents, the pre-war communists, survived the World War II in the Soviet Union and in 1946 returned to Poland with a several months old daughter. Włodek Goldkorn’s father worked as a journalist in “Folks-Sztyme”, and was active in numerous Jewish organisations, including, the Socio-Cultural Association of Jews in Poland (TSKŻ) and the Jewish Committee. The Goldkorn Family moved from Katowice to Warsaw. They took up residence in the Rakowiec District. Włodek Goldkorn attended the Słowacki High School.

Following the events of March ’68, the Goldkorn Family decided to move to Israel. For half a year, they had lived in Jerusalem, and then they moved to Bat Yam. Włodek Goldkorn became a member of the radical leftist organisation, which opposed the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian lands, and began philosophical studies. His father found a job as a journalist in the Yiddish language newspaper, and his sister became an assistant to Prof. Zygmunt Bauman at the University of Haifa.

In 1976, Włodek Goldkorn left for Italy, where, following the studies in political science, he began to work as a journalist. He supported the Solidarity Movement in Poland. In 2017, he received the Astid 'Appello Award for the book entitled “Il bambino nella neve” (The child in the snow) containing his memoirs and reflections on the Holocaust.
