The Great Synagogue of Chernivtsi

The Great Synagogue of Chernivtsi (Ukr. Wełyka synahoha, Велика синагога), also called the Grojse-Szil (or Grosszil, Ukr. Ґроссшил) is located at 33 Synahohy Street (Ukr. вулиця Синагоги, 33). It was erected in the years 1799–1854, in the place of its wooden predecessor. It was considered the main synagogue of Chernivtsi until the Tempel Synagogue was opened in 1877.
