The Grodzka Gate in Lublin

Photographic documentation of the site

The Grodzka Gate, also known as the Jewish Gate, was the historical border between the Christian and Jewish cities. It was originally part of the city's fortifications built in 1342 by order of Casimir the Great. At the end of the 18th century it was rebuilt in accordance with a design by Dominik Merlini. The building was renovated several times - in the 19th century, after the Second World War and at the end of the 20th century. During the Second World War, the Gate served the role of the entrance gate to the Lublin Ghetto. Currently, the site is home to the "Grodzka Gate - NN Theatre" Centre, which, through a number of projects, seeks to commemorate the history of Lublin's Jews and the city's multiculturalism.
