Hmm... What to wear today?

Leśniak, Tomasz (1977- )

Artist's print of a satirical drawing on the clothing of right-wing subcultures, reflecting the comic book poetics. In one wardrobe there is a row of T-shirts with different symbols next to wide stripes and black balaclavas, with symbols often carrying mutually exclusive content. These include: White Eagle, the Polish national flag, White Power (an alternative, simpler name for the slogan White Supremacy, expressing the racist belief in the superiority of the white race over others), Falanga (a drawing of a hand holding a sword, used by the pre-war National-Radical Camp, now by the National Rebirth of Poland), Celtic cross (a four-armed cross placed in a circle - used by nationalists, neo-Nazis and White Supremacy movements), Nazi swastika, 88 (referring to the Nazi call of “Heil Hitler” by double reference the eighth letter of the alphabet: HH, or by double reference to the eighth from the end letter of the alphabet - to the SS, the Nazi paramilitary organisation Die Schutzstaffel der NSDAP).

At the top above the drawing border is a white inscription on a black scarf: “POLSKA MISTRZEM POLSKI” - the title of the series, in the white rectangle to the right of the inscription is the inscription in black letters: “TOMASZ LEŚNIAK & | RAFAŁ SKARŻYCKI”. Next to the man, a dialogue balloon reads: “HMM... WHAT TO WEAR TODAY?”.

The drawing was created digitally in late August and early September 2016. This is also the time when the strip was printed in Duży Format (the supplement to Gazeta Wyborcza).
