Marek Huf was born in Dzierżoniów in 1952. His father was a Polish Jew, a communist who survived the war in the Soviet Union, while his mother was Polish. After the war, his father joined the Polish United Workers' Party (PZPR), worked as director of the Cultural Centre “Bawełna” belonging to the “Silesiana” textile factory in Dzierżoniów; he died in 1967. After the death of the father, the Huf family decided to remain in Poland, despite the fact that members of the Jewish community in Dzierżoniów offered them an opportunity to leave for Israel. In 1980, Marek Huf again became interested in the work performed by the Social and Cultural Society of Jews in Poland (TSKŻ), which he attended as a child. Since 2004, he has worked as a cultural instructor at TSKŻ in Dzierżoniów. He is also an owner of a company specialising in sanitary services and his own music band. He has three sons: Maciej, Marcel and Maurycy. The oldest son Maurycy made aliyah to Israel in 2000, while the two other sons are members of the Jewish religious community in Wrocław. Marek Huf feels both Polish and Jewish.
