Charyton, Józef (1909-1975)

Painting by Józef Charyton titled "Wnętrze chederu" ("Interior of the Cheder"), oil on canvas. It depicts a group of boys sitting in school benches. Open books lie in front of them. Four boys are on their way to the classroom. Among the children, there are three older men – teachers. They are dressed in dark robes and wear kippahs. One of the teachers, wearing a fur hat, stands by the first bench, leaning over a book. The other two are standing further inside the classroom. On the right side, behind the group of students, a window can be seen, and on the left, there are open doors. In the lower right corner, the signature reads: "1966 J. Charyton."
