Jerusalem Temple

Listnau, Emanuel (około 1740-1780)

A calligraphic drawing depicting the Jerusalem Temple, made by Emanuel Listnau in 1771. A building with a simple, cubic shape is placed on the blue background. The façade part of the two-storey building includes a four-storey tower. Additionally, the body of the building is covered with a single-storey ambulatory, closed rectangularly. The ambulatory, the body and the tower in the façade are topped with a railing with balusters. In turn, the body and the tower are finished with a gable roof. The storeys are separated by cornices. The axes of the façade are marked by rectangular windows and pilasters flanking them. A staircase with two columns on either side leads to the entrance of the Temple. All shapes of the building were carved with Old Testament verses (Second Book of Chronicles 1–7) in French. In the upper right corner, above the building, there is a banderole with the inscription "SCENOGRAPHIA TEMPLI HIEROSOLYMITANI". On the side of the platform on which the Temple is located there is an inscription: "Ex libro secundo Chronicorum a Capite Imo usque ad VIImum”. In the lower right corner is the signature: "E. Listnau/ Gedani Ao 1771".
