Objects

The Jewish People's House in Chernivtsi, located at 5 Teatralna płoszcza Street (Ukr. Театральна площа, 5) was built in 1905-1908, according to the design of Teodor Lewandowski. The building was the seat of many Jewish organizations and associations conducting cultural, educational, sports, social, and political activities. The idea of People's Houses of individual ethnic minorities living in northern Bukovina fit into the policy of granting cultural autonomy to the peoples living in Austria-Hungary.
