Jewish Theatre in Kraków

Photographic documentation of the site

The former Jewish Theatre building is located in Kraków's Kazimierz district, at 7 Bocheńska Street. The idea of creating a Jewish theatre in Kazimierz came about in 1887. However, implementing this idea was hampered by the lack of a suitable interior where performances could take place. It was only during the construction of low-cost houses for Jews by the Association for the Construction of Cheap Israeli Houses in 1908 that a suitable building was erected. At Pusta Street (currently 7 Bocheńska Street), a brick building on a rectangular plan, designed by Ferdinand Liebing and Jozua Ignacy Oberlender, was erected. The building is a two-storey structure topped by an attic reminiscent of the Renaissance style.
