Kiddush cup

Kiddush (Hebrew: sanctification) is a blessing recited over a cup of kosher red wine at the beginning of the Sabbath. The person leading the prayer and those present during the ceremony should taste the wine.

In the collection of the Museum in Łowicz, there is a

goblet supported by a round, profiled foot, with a slender stem and a round knop, and an octagonal bowl decorated with engraved and dotted ornamentation. Just below the spout, there is a Hebrew inscription that reads: "This goblet belongs to the officer Reb Judah, son of M. of Konin, 1811."

Kiddush cups for red wine were used for ritual purposes on Shabbat and Jewish holidays.
