Landscape

Zuckerman, Bencjon (1890-1944)

The painting titled Landscape by Ben Zion Zuckerman is a charming urban panorama. The painter captured a street in one of the unrecognised borderland towns. There is a passing horse-drawn cart and a row of wooden houses in the foreground, whereas the background is dominated by a white Orthodox Church. The author of the landscape, Ben Zion Zuckerman, was born in Vilnius in 1890. He began his studies at the Vilnius Drawing School and was later educated in Berlin and Paris. He died in 1944 in Samarkand. His painting belongs to the trend of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. He mainly painted landscapes and still-life, as well as portraits and residential interiors.
