Landscape of Kazimierz

Trębacz, Tadeusz (1910?-1943)

The painting from the 1930s, (gouache, watercolour, paper, 42 x 33 cm) presents a front wall of a house with an outbuilding adjacent on the right. The house with light blue walls with two tiny windows in the upper part of the wall is covered with a gabled, greenish-reddish roof with a dormer in the middle, the outbuilding is grey. In the doorway of the house, there are two figures facing each other, a woman and a man. In front of the building, there are also two figures: one is sitting on a stool by the door and the other one is a painter wearing blue clothes, standing in front of an easel.

Tadeusz Trębacz (1910–1943) – painter and illustrator, nephew of the painter Maurycy Trębacz. He left a series of watercolours related to Kazimierz Dolny. Those are images of Kazimierz Dolny showing Jewish buildings. Sometimes, the artist created genre scenes presenting the everyday life of the town.
