Letter written by Łucja (Lucy) Liebermann either to her sister Charlotte or to her parents, Joachim and Józefina Liebermann; sent from Palestine on 11 December 1945. As the original envelope is missing, it is impossible to determine the intended addressee. Before WW2, the Liebermann family and their relatives, the Druks family, were co-owners of the Emil Kuźnicki Roofing Felt Factory in Brzezinka (est. 1888). In 1939, expectant of the impending war, both families headed for the eastern frontier and beyond. Their odyssey first took them to Lviv, then to a labour camp deep inside the Soviet Union (Kozmodemyansk in the Mari El Republic and Omsk in Siberia), and finally to Uzbekistan (Tashkent and Samarkand). The Druks family – Iro and Łucja, alongside their children Adam and Elinoar – reached Teheran and Baghdad with the Polish Armed Forces under the command of general Władysław Anders, popularly known as Anders’ Army. On 31 December 1942, they arrived in Palestine. Due to their advanced age, the Liebermann elders, Joachim (1876–1950) and Józefina (1879–1958), stayed behind in Samarkand. After WW2, they returned briefly to Oświęcim. Eventually, the Liebermanns rejoined their family in 1947.
