Letter to Anna Zimmermann (VIII)

Natalia Zajczyk, in response to a letter from her sister, Anna Zimmermann, dated 25 May 1950 (see MHŻP-B1450) she wrote: "Dear, dearest Anna! Don't be angry that [I haven't] written back so far to 'such' a letter! Your letter was a shock to me. [...] Your letter influenced me in such a way that I began like a madwoman to fly around offices and obtain papers. No one would have recognised in me that Nastka, who until then had been lying like a fallen log. Something was playing and singing inside me. I felt like I was in love. So there is someone in the world who wants to save me, so seriously ill! And the most important sentence in your letter, which took all the sadness out of my heart: "Do you doubt that Zosia will find a home with me!" How many sleepless nights, how many black thoughts you crossed out with this one sentence! My child will find a home - you understand what this means to me!" [...] Dear Andzia! It is not easy for me to decide. First of all, I don't want to drop a stone on your head. I think you understand that. Secondly, I am very attached to Poland and it will be difficult for me to abandon it. It seems that it was not easy for you, too, so you will understand" (The letter from Natalia Zajczyk to Anna Zimmermann, 19 July 1950). | Renata Piątkowska
