Letter to Halina Kraus

It is part of the collection

The letter from a person, whose name we do not know, to Halina Kraus on 2 cards. From the contents of the letter (original spelling): "I am very sorry that I am writing back only today and in a slip, but I am using my free time during my duty at the consulate. [...] | In his last letter, your husband writes that your efforts to obtain an English visa have not yielded and will not yield results. Why this pessimism? Has Bronka been categorically refused? What will happen next, after all, you cannot stay in this dank hole. Apparently, there is now a Polish school in Romania, where former members of the government and generals teach. [Here in Amsterdam, there is now a frenzied revival before St Nicholas' Day, which they celebrate here more solemnly than Christmas. The exhibitions are full and dazzlingly illuminated. I can't look at the things that used to fill me with joy because I keep seeing bombed-out Warsaw flats in front of my eyes". | MW
