Letter to Janina Puncuch

part of the collection

Letter from Bronisława Roller to her sisters on 2 pages. From the body of the letter (original spelling): “Firstly a few words about Władek. As you know from our dispatches, he arrived here on the 3rd day of this month. He’s still at Ellis Island, where I visit him quite often. [...] | America. It’s difficult for me to say anything yet. New-York, apart from having wonderful, impressive sections planned on large scale, is an awful, garish, upstart colossus city. The entrance to the harbour is unbelievably magnificent and you can imagine what a sublime moment it was when, at 6 o'clock in the morning, after 11 days on the Ocean, we saw the contours of the city and the Statue of Liberty. We made a stop in Canada as we had to drop off the Canadian governor to Halifax. There were already many English emigrants on the ship, especially children and pregnant women.”
