Letter from Marek Szwarc to Gina Pinkus

Gina (Regina) Pinkus and Marek Szwarc met in 1919 in Łódź. Thirty-five days later, they stood under a chupa (wedding canopy) and did not part (except for the period of Szwarc's service in the Polish Army in France and Great Britain during World War II) until he died in 1958. Of his father-in-law, Ludwik Pinkus, Marek Szwarc said: "Under the wedding canopy, when we were getting married, I understood that he would yield to our desire for freedom, for unrestrained love" (E. Markowa, „Wybór” [Choice], Warsaw-Toruń 2015, p. 46).
