Letter to Tadeusz Perl

part of the collection

Another letter from the father to his son, on a postcard, with a return address to Maria Karczmarek.

The letter follows a similar pattern of content layout: at the beginning, thanks for the parcels, information about the family's daily life, modestly encouraging information about the family's condition, in the last sentence, information about the weather.

There were three months left until the Grossaktion Warsaw.

Content (spelling has been partially updated):

[in the margin:] 15/4 | 1942

My Dear! We've got another parcel. There was definitely Maggi in it, and it seems to have been tapioca or something similar for the second course. You lavish your gifts on us so often that it's hard to remember everything that was there. The fact is that we eat them with an appetite; I don't need to go on about the chocolate, and the oatmeal makes a great-tasting soup. We look forward to hearing about Marek's children and the details we asked about. No changes here. Alisia, Roma's [an unidentified person] daughter, has brought a lot of cheerfulness to our home. Her aunts look after her diligently but don't spoil her very much. The little girl is clever, and though she already has a personality, she yields to guidance and is obedient, so there is no trouble with her at home. Still, it's another, albeit small, person to feed. Roma earns an income, but not enough to support her and the child. But, all in all, she's not much of a burden for us. The weather hasn't settled in yet; it's still chilly, and spring is nowhere to be seen. Warm hugs and kisses L
