Letter to Tadeusz Perl

part of the collection

A letter from the mother from the Warsaw Ghetto, probably dated April 1942. Address details written in Leon Perl's hand, with Maria Karczmarek's address in Powiśle, Warsaw, again indicated as the return address.

The letter again refers to the children of Tadeusz Perl's friend (relative?) Marek, whose surname we do not know, his name recurs regularly in pre-war correspondence, and the man is also a co-addressee of some of the letters.

My dear Tadzio!

Thank you very much for your latest parcel. The noodles were great – Jadzia and Alusia enjoyed them tremendously. I'm very surprised that you haven't yet told me whether you have visited Marek's children and how they are doing. There's nothing new with us. Your father is working, and Jadzia is working, too – now she'll be working in the garden, which is better than a smoke-filled hall. As usual, I manage the house and take care of Alusia, who lives with us. I take walks with her, we sunbathe on the balcony, and somehow, my time passes. I look forward to hearing from you, kisses from your M.
