Letter to Tadeusz Perl

part of the collection

A handwritten letter by Paulina (Pesa) Frydlender Kern (for information about her, see the note to the letter MPOLIN-A50.1.4), on a plain grey sheet. Content on both sides of the sheet.

Content:

Szczecin, 24.VII. 1946.

Dear Tadzio!

It's been a month since I returned from distant sunny Uzbekistan to Poland. I am staying in Szczecin because my husband works here in the Military Prosecutor's Office. In Warsaw, I found out that you are alive and have a 6[-]week old daughter. My congratulations! I, unfortunately, can't boast. In 1942, when the Germans were at Stalingrad – I buried my son. How I survived, what I saw in 1939–1946 – I could write volumes, but I'm so tired from travelling that I don't want to write, and anyway maybe the letter will end up in the bin. I am, of course, very interested about your life. I looked through some of your letters at Olek's [Aleksander Bachrach?], from which I learned very little, only that you are ill as we are in exile “with a longing for Poland”[.]

Warsaw – rubble, and yet how much one wants to build one's life right on that rubble....

If Tad you feel like writing to old Pestka – here's my address:

Szczecin. Prosecutor's office of the

District Court assistant public prosecutor

Kern Paulina.

(The name "Paulina" – picked up at the Ministry – apparently goes with the face [?]

Pestka

Have you not met Józek Marymont by any chance?
