Letter to Tadeusz Perl

part of the collection

Letter from mother to her son on a postcard, written on the blank part of the card and on the part next to the postal data. Top right corner is torn off (at the time of donation to the museum collection, the object was in a very poor state of conservation). On the reverse there is a printed postage stamp (partially detached with a section of the card), a circular stamp and two rectangular stamps. On the rectangular stamps, there are black inscriptions: "CANCER CAN BE CURED | LEt THEM CURE YOU! DON'T WAIT[...]" and "WEEK AGAINST CANCER[...] | IN POLAND 23-30.XI.193[...]". At the top of the card, the imprint reads: "POLSKA – POLOGNE | KARTKA POCZTOWA – CARTE POSTALE" (POLAND – POLOGNE | POSTCARD – CARTE POSTALE).

Content (original spelling):

Dear Tadzio!

Thank you so much for your detailed letter – although I can't help but feel you're not very satisfied, which surprises me [?]. We didn't celebrate Jadzia's birthday this year, at her own request – the gifts were poor, and she decided it wasn't worth the expense. They often party, including in the underground of the restaurant "Pod krzywą latarnią" on Podwale Street. We have a new café, Hirszfeld's, beautifully decorated and quite expensive. So far – always crowded. As for the weather, you won't impress us - it's been around 10-11 degrees during the day, no snow yet. A remarkably beautiful November. Regarding the flat, it's not going well – it's hard to find something suitable; a lot of new houses are emerging, but terribly far, and closer ones are between 220 and 250 zlotys for 2 rooms.

Tadziulek, I wanted to draw your attention to [underlined word:] you should definitely visit those relatives and establish some connections; it's very important nowadays. Find out at the consulate whether the renewal of your privileged identity card has to be arranged in Warsaw or on-site; don't forget to let us know!

Hugs and kisses

Melcia.
