Letter from Marta Glocer to her son and daughter-in-law on 2 pages. From the body of the letter (original spelling): “We’ve received a lengthy letter from you, beloved Greta, with a note from our Ania added for the first time. You can imagine our joy and exuberance, daddy and I both cried because you can’t imagine how much we love and miss our little one. In my imagination, she is so wonderful: beautiful, tall and so good, like an angel, although I wouldn’t like her to be so, because she’ll be exploited like her father; I also have the impression that this constant wandering has taught this child to take life too seriously, please keep her away from the sad aspects of life, don’t let her learn too much, let her play with dolls, don’t talk to her about adult issues, simply speaking: don’t deprive her of her childhood, life is cruel, let her enjoy the childhood years as much as possible. Recently, in your letter, beloved Władeczek, you didn’t try to brighten up our darkness, thoughts started to occupy my poor brain like bats and I felt guilty to have brought up my daughters in such an impractical way and even more so because, unfortunately, I gave them poor health, but as far as I remember other families, less wealthy also, didn’t educate their daughters in any profession either and their mothers only tried to bring them up as future wives for rich husbands [...].
